World Champion Matthew Gardiner was born in Denver, Colorado. At the age of 4 he started Irish dancing, following in the footsteps of his sister Anna and brother Michael. While living in the U.S., Matthew won two Western Regional Oireachtas. He was 2nd at the North American Championships when he was only 6.
When he and his family moved to Galway in 2006, Matthew joined the Hession School of Irish Dance. He has since won a staggering ten consecutive Connacht Championship titles. His incredible achievements also include four British Nationals, five Great Britains, an All Scotland and two Irish Nationals. In 2015 Matthew won the World Championships in Montreal and, with his brother Michael, became the first pair of brothers in 30 years to win World Championship titles in the same year.
The Gardiner Brothers have become world renowned for their viral Irish dancing videos which can be found on their Facebook page. Matthew is also a performer with the Kilfenora Ceili Band and Fusion Fighters.
He is currently a student in Presentation College, Athenry and plays on the school basketball and soccer teams (where his fast footwork has benefited him greatly!). Matthew is still competing and undoubtedly has a great future ahead of him.
