Cathal Keaney started dancing at the age of 5 with his older brother Fergal. Now 20 years old he has had a long dancing career. Cathal has trained for many years with the Hessian School of Irish dancing in Galway. From an early age Cathal was winning major competitions. He is an unbeaten Connaught Champion and he won his first all Ireland title at 9 years of age.
Cathal has won the world Championships title for the last 2 years and in the year 2011 he won every majoy title there is in Irish dancing. This is known as the grand slam in Irish dancing.
Cathal is also the winner of the Marie Duffy award for excellence in Irish Dance Choreography and performance. This was a special competition for anyone placed in the top 5 in the worlds. They were given a piece of music and each dancer choreographed a dance and competed against each other.
Cathal has performed on many T.V shows, including the first televised talent competition called “Class Act”. Cathal and his brother were voted by the public into a live grand final and by popular demand were again voted overall winners claiming a cash prize of 10,000 euro. Cathal has performed on the late late show (Irelands most famous TV show) with the band “Full set" and also tours with Michael Flatley in Lord of the Dance.
Cathal is also an engineering student studying at NUIG Galway.
